Day 97 Kangaroo Island

Beautiful day, cooler down south. Earliest ferry today was 12 noon and so decided to grab a quick haircut before leaving Victor Harbour. That head is just getting worserer and more worserer.

Haircut

Did I mention that it was short 🙂

Found an area in South Australia where they grow something besides wheat and had to stop and take a photo. Unfortunately, this was on a corner and just as I pulled back on to the road a car came screaming around the corner and nearly collected me, it was VERY close.

Corner

Deep breath, checked my undies and headed back down to the ferry terminal at Cape Jervis.

Ferry docking

Quite an expensive trip, $127 each way for me and the ‘Bird and after talking to some locals here on the island, they pay the same rates as everyone else every time they want to come or go. Semi trailers carrying freight, fuel etc; are charged thousands of dollars to cross but EVERYTHING comes to the island via ferry.

The ‘Bird did get special treatment though and they tied it down just in case.

The water was a beautiful colour and glass smooth (my phone camera could not nearly do it justice) and there were even a few critters along the way.

Porphin

Kangaroo Island is a VERY big island (150km long and between 900m and 57km wide) and I travelled 60kms to Kingscote and my digs at the Seaview Guesthouse.

Got organised and went for a ride to Emu Bay where you can get down onto the beach and fang along for a hairy ride. Very similar to Cable Beach in Broome and people do come down to swim and have a sunset meal (minus the camels :-] ).

EmuBay

There is a free tidal pool across the road from the guesthouse.

Doing a tour of the southern section of the island tomorrow so will really have my tourist hat on ……. stop it …… I’m getting excited!
